Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement V22

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the right wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the upper air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  5. Remove the condenser inlet hose nuts (3).
  6. Remove the condenser inlet hose (4) from the condenser.

  7. Object Number: 769802  Size: SH
  8. Remove the condenser outlet hose retaining nut (1).
  9. Remove the condenser outlet hose (2) from the condenser.
  10. Remove the upper transmission oil cooler bracket nuts.
  11. Remove the transmission oil cooler from the studs.
  12. Remove the sealing washers from the hoses.

  14. Remove the condenser retaining nuts (1).
  15. Remove the condenser (2) by sliding it to the side and removing through the top center.
  16. Cap off the condenser fittings.

Installation Procedure

  1. Add PAG oil to the condenser. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .
  2. Remove the plugs from the condenser fittings.
  3. Install new sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  4. Install the condenser from the top center.

  5. Object Number: 769651  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the condenser retaining nuts (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the transmission oil cooler onto the studs.
  9. Install the transmission oil cooler nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  11. Install the condenser outlet hose (2) to the condenser (4).
  12. Install the condenser outlet hose nut (1).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  14. Install the condenser inlet hose (4) to the condenser (1).
  15. Install the condenser inlet hose nuts (3).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  17. Install the upper air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  18. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  20. Install the right wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.

Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement GRW

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the right wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement .
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 769337  Size: SH
  5. Remove the compressor hose assembly retaining nuts (4).
  6. Remove the compressor hose from the condenser.

  7. Object Number: 769802  Size: SH
  8. Remove the evaporator hose retaining nut (1).
  9. Remove the evaporator hose assembly from the condenser.
  10. Remove the sealing washers from the hoses.

  11. Object Number: 769651  Size: SH
  12. Remove the condenser retaining nuts (1).
  13. Remove the condenser (2).
  14. Cap off the condenser fittings.

Installation Procedure

  1. Add PAG oil to the condenser. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .
  2. Remove the plugs from the condenser fittings.
  3. Install new sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  4. Install the condenser.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the condenser retaining nuts (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the evaporator hose (2) to the condenser (4).
  9. Install the evaporator hose retaining nut (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  11. Install the compressor hose assembly (4) to the condenser (1).
  12. Install the compressor hose assembly nuts (3).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  14. Inspect the engine oil level. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
  15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  18. Install the right wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement .
