Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to SIR Warning in the Preface section.

    Warning: When carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector.
       • Make sure the air bag opening points away from you.
            When storing an undeployed inflator module:
       • Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
       • Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment.
       • When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side.
    Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Remove the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement.
  3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint instrument panel (I/P) module harness connector.
  4. Disconnect the I/P module pigtail connector.

  6. Remove the mounting fasteners (2) from the I/P module.
  7. Remove the I/P module (3) from the I/P carrier (1).
  8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 189875  Size: SH
  1. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P carrier (1).
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the mounting fasteners (2) to the I/P module and tighten the fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  4. Connect the I/P module pigtail connector.
  5. Install the CPA to the I/P module harness connector.
  6. Install the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement.
  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
