Circuit/System Description

The intake throttle control motor is installed on the intake throttle valve body together with the position sensor. The intake throttle position sensor changes output voltage according to intake throttle valve position. The intake throttle position sensor provides a signal to the engine control module (ECM) on the signal circuit, which is relative to the position changes of the intake throttle valve.

Conditions for Running the DTC

DTCs P0652, P0653, P02E8, or P02E9 are not set.

Case 1

    • The battery voltage is between 10-16 volts.
    • The ignition switch is ON for longer than 2 seconds.
    • The desired intake throttle position is more than 5 percent or less than 5 percent.
    • The above conditions are met for 10 seconds.

Case 2

    • The battery voltage is between 10-16 volts.
    • The intake throttle valve Zero Position Learn is complete.

Closed Position Learning Conditions

      • The battery voltage is more than 10 volts.
      • The engine coolant temperature is more than -30°C (-22°F).
      • The intake throttle position is more than -20 percent.
      • The ECM detects that the difference of current intake throttle position and learning intake throttle position is between -5 and +5 percent.
      • The elapsed time after IGN OFF for 2-2.5 seconds, or the ignition is OFF for longer than 2.5 seconds.
      • The above conditions are met for 10 seconds.

Open Position Learning Conditions

      • The battery voltage is more than 11 volts.
      • The intake throttle position is less than 130 percent.
      • The engine coolant temperature is more than -30°C (-22°F).
      • The ECM detects that the difference of current intake throttle position and old intake throttle position is between -5 and +5 percent.
      • The elapsed time after IGN OFF for 5 seconds, or the ignition switch is OFF for longer than longer than 5.5 seconds.
      • The above conditions are met for 10 seconds.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Case 1

The difference between the target intake throttle position and the actual intake throttle position is more than 15 percent or less than -15 percent.

Case 2

    • The intake throttle position during the open position learning is more than 115 percent or less than 85 percent.
    • The intake throttle position during the closed position learning is more than 13 percent or less than -13 percent.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P02E7 is a Type B DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P02E7 is a Type B DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

Inspect for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed intake throttle valve will cause this DTC to set.

Circuit/System Verification

Verify the integrity of the intake throttle valve by inspecting for the following conditions:

    • Damaged components
    • Loose or improper installation

Circuit/System Testing

Important: You must perform the Circuit/System Verification before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

  1. Remove the intake throttle valve.
  2. Inspect the intake throttle valve for the following conditions:
  3. • A throttle blade that is NOT in the rest position
    • A throttle blade that is binding when opening or closing
    • A throttle blade that is free to move in the open or closed positions WITHOUT spring pressure
    If a condition is found, repair or replace the intake throttle valve.
  4. Measure the following circuits for high resistance:
  5. • Low reference circuit
    • Signal circuit
    If high resistance is found, repair the affected circuit.
    If no resistance is found, replace the IA valve.
  6. Reconnect all previously disconnected harness connectors.
  7. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool.
  8. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
  9. Start the engine, then observe the scan tool for the current DTCs.
  10. If the DTC fails this ignition, replace the ECM.
