The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A dealer may encounter a rear main oil seal leak shortly after an engine is replaced.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a rear main oil seal leak has been verified on a 7.4L Goodwrench replacement engine, please check the build date of the engine. The engine build date can be found on the Goodwrench Engine ID tag located on the right side of the block.

If the engine was built between 10-10-2006 and 11-18-2006 please replace the rear main seal. During this time period the engine may have had the wrong rear main seal installed.

Use the current GMSPO part number for the rear main seal repair. No new part or updated part is needed.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
