Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step checks for continuous operation of the auxiliary blower motor.

  2. This step determines if the problem is in the auxiliary blower motor switch.

DEFINITION: The auxiliary blower motor is ON while the auxiliary blower switch is in the OFF position.

Did you review the auxiliary Heat operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the auxiliary blower motor switch to the OFF position.

Is the blower motor OFF?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the auxiliary blower motor switch connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Is the blower motor OFF?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the auxiliary blower motor resistor assembly connector.
  3. Connect the auxiliary blower motor switch connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Is the blower motor OFF?

Go to Step 6

Test the auxiliary blower motor supply voltage circuit and the auxiliary high blower motor speed control circuit of the auxiliary blower motor for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the LO and MED auxiliary blower motor speed control circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the auxiliary blower motor resistor assembly. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the auxiliary blower motor switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the auxiliary blower motor resistor assembly. Refer to Auxiliary Blower Motor Resistor Assembly Replacement .
