Engine Brake Actuator Replacement 7.8L

Tools Required

J 42971 Quick Disconnect Tool

1. Drain the air tank. Refer to Air Brake Reservoir Draining .
2. Using the J 42971 Quick Disconnect Tool, release the air line at the actuator fitting. Refer to Power Steering Hose Quick Connect Fitting .



3. Disconnect the air line from the exhaust brake actuator elbow.
4. Note position of the fitting and remove from the exhaust brake actuator.
5. Remove the retaining clip from the actuator rod.
6. Lift the actuator and remove it from the brake linkage ball.

1. Install the actuator to linkage ball.
2. Position actuator onto actuator rod.
3. Install the actuator retaining clip.
4. Install the fitting to the exhaust brake actuator in original position.



5. Connect the air line to the fitting on the exhaust brake actuator.
6. Refill air tank. Refer to Air Brake Reservoir Filling .
7. Check system for leaks.
