Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement Impala

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 460388  Size: SH
  1. Remove the windshield garnish molding from the clip retainers on the upper side rail.
  2. Slide the roof leg of the garnish molding out from under the center pillar trim panel.

  3. Object Number: 460563  Size: SH
  4. Remove the garnish molding from the windshield pillar.
  5. Remove the garnish molding lower leg from the front door carpet retainer by pulling up and back.
  6. Remove the windshield garnish molding.

  7. Object Number: 889268  Size: SH
  8. If the clip retainer was damaged during the removal of the windshield garnish molding, remove the screw and the retainer from the upper side rail.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 889268  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install a new clip retainer to the upper side rail, if necessary.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the retainer screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  3. Align the garnish molding lower leg to the front door carpet retainer and to the front door weatherstrip.
  4. Align the garnish molding to the trough on the upper instrument panel trim panel.

  5. Object Number: 460563  Size: SH
  6. Align the garnish molding retainers to the windshield pillar.
  7. Slide the roof leg under the center pillar trim panel.
  8. Align the garnish molding to the clip retainers on the upper side rail.
  9. Install the garnish molding, applying pressure at all the retainers until fully seated.

Removal Procedure

  1. Reposition the rear upper quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the windshield garnish molding from the clip retainers on the upper/roof side rail.

  3. Object Number: 460390  Size: SH
  4. Remove the windshield garnish molding from the windshield pillar.
  5. Remove the windshield garnish molding from the front door carpet retainer, pulling up and back.
  6. Remove the windshield garnish molding from the vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 889268  Size: SH
  8. Remove the upper side rail clip retainer if damaged in the removal of windshield garnish molding.

  1. Install the new upper side rail clip retainer and screw if removed, to the upper side rail.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the upper side rail clip retainer screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  3. Align the windshield garnish molding to the front door carpet retainer and front door weatherstrip.
  4. Align the windshield garnish molding to the trough on the upper instrument panel trim panel.
  5. Align the windshield garnish molding retainers to the windshield pillar.
  6. Align the windshield garnish molding to the clip retainers on the upper side rail.
  7. Install the windshield garnish molding, applying pressure at all the retainers locations until fully seated.
  8. Install the rear upper quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
