Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right splash shield cover. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.

  5. Object Number: 12302  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the CKP sensor shield (1).
  8. Remove the CKP sensor bolts.

  9. Object Number: 12303  Size: SH
  10. Remove the CKP sensor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12303  Size: SH
  1. Position the CKP sensor to the block.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the CKP sensor bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the CKP sensor shield (1).
  6. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  7. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  8. Install the right splash shield cover. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Perform the Crankshaft Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
