Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Open the rear compartment.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the rear compartment.
  4. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar switch signal input in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the trunk ajar switch signal is active?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Step 5

Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal and ground circuits.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 11

Repair open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Ajar Indicator Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
