Removal Procedure
  1. Open the rear compartment.
  2. Remove the sill plate. Refer to Rear Compartment Sill Trim Plate Replacement .
  3. Remove the convenience net and retainers, if equipped. Refer to Compartment Convenience Net Replacement - Rear .
  4. Remove the tail lamp retainers.
  5. Remove the plastic cover from the On-Star module.

  6. Remove the nuts from the module bracket.
  7. Lift the module off the studs.

  8. Disconnect the cellular antenna cable from the communication interface module by pulling outward on the square plastic housing.
  9. Disconnect the two lower connectors from the module.
  10. Disconnect the GPS antenna cable from the module by pulling outward on the circular metal sleeve.
  11. Remove the module and the bracket from the rear compartment.

  12. Remove the spare tire cover from the rear compartment.
  13. Remove the seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.

    14. Object Number: 561695 Size: SH
  14. Remove the push-in retainers from the trim panel.

    15. Object Number: 460553 Size: SH
  15. Pull back the trim panel from the rear seating area.

    16. Object Number: 460377 Size: SH
  16. Remove the trim panel from the rear compartment.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 460377 Size: SH
  1. Install the trim panel to the rear compartment.

    2. Object Number: 460553 Size: SH
  2. Return the trim panel to the installed position.
  3. Press the trim over the rear shock tower studs.

    4. Object Number: 561695 Size: SH
  4. Install the push-in retainers to the trim panel.

    5. Object Number: 460552 Size: SH
  5. Install the spare tire cover to the rear compartment.
  6. Install the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
  7. Position the communication interface module and the bracket in the rear compartment.

  8. Connect the GPS antenna cable by pushing in on the metal sleeve.
  9. Connect the two lower connectors to the module.
  10. Connect the cellular antenna by pressing in on the square plastic housing.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Install the nuts to the interface module bracket.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  12. Install the plastic cover on the On-Star module.
  13. Install the convenience net and retainers, if equipped. Refer to Compartment Convenience Net Replacement - Rear .
  14. Install the tail lamp retainers.
  15. Install the sill plate. Refer to Rear Compartment Sill Trim Plate Replacement .
  16. Close the rear compartment.
