Circuit Description

The door lock switch provides a direct ground input into the body control module (BCM) when the door lock switch is activated to the unlock position. The door lock switch also provides a path to ground, through a 470ohms resistor, into the BCM, when the door lock switch is activated to the lock position. This input is used by the BCM in order to control the door locks.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a path to ground in the door lock/unlock control circuit for longer than 60 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The BCM stores DTC B3272 in memory.
    • The BCM will disable the input and all operations of the input until the fault goes away.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC B3272 will clear if the BCM no longer detects a short to ground for longer than 60 seconds.
    • A history DTC B3272 will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
    • A scan tool may be used in order to clear the DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

    • If the DTC B3272 is a history DTC, the fault may be intermittent. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections.
    • The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur:
       - An intermittent path to ground in the door lock/unlock control circuit
       - The door lock switch is intermittently shorted to ground internally.
       - The BCM is intermittently shorted to ground internally.

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests to see if the BCM is getting the correct input from the door lock switch.

  2. This step tests for the correct inputs from the door lock switch, so that an intermittent can be ruled out.

  1. Depress and hold either door lock switch to the lock position.
  2. Using the scan tool, observe the door lock switch input parameter.
  3. Depress and hold either door lock switch to the unlock position.
  4. Using the scan tool, observe the door lock switch input parameter.

Did the door lock switch input parameter change from inactive to active for both positions?
