A permanent magnet motor operates each of the power side windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when the motor receives voltage. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. The side window switches control the polarity of the supply voltage.

The left front side window switch controls all of the motors. The other window switches control only the window regulator motor in that door.

A built-in circuit breaker protects each motor. The circuit breaker opens the circuit when the switch is open for too long of a period of time under the following conditions:

    • The window has an obstruction.
    • The window is fully open or fully closed.

The circuit breaker resets automatically as the circuit breaker cools.

Master Window Switch Operation

When the ignition switch is in the RUN or accessory position, battery voltage is available through the Rap relay to the left front side window switch. The operation of the left front window up switch powers the left front window regulator motor. The window motor grounds through the window switch down contact.

The operation of the down switch supplies battery voltage in the opposite direction to the window regulator motor. The window regulator grounds through the window switch up contact.

Individual Window Switch Operation

When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, battery voltage is available to the left front door lock and side window switch. The operation of the up switch in the right front window switch supplies battery voltage to the right front window regulator motor. The motor grounds through the down contact in the window switch and the down contact in the left front side window switch. The operation of the down switch in the window control supplies battery voltage in opposite direction to the window regulator motor. The motor grounds through the up contact in the window switch and the up contact in the left front side window switch.

Express Down Feature

Press the Down position in the left front window switch momentarily past the first detent in order for the window to reach the FULL-DOWN position. Press the left front window switch to the UP position in order to stop the window.

Lock Out Switch Operation

The left front window switch contains a lock out switch which removes battery voltage from the other window switches. This will not allow the operation of the windows from their individual switches. The windows can be operated as normal from the left front window switch.
