Did you perform the Radio/Audio System diagnostic system check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.

  3. Tune the radio to a known strong AM station then to a known strong FM station.

Is the radio reception clear?

Inspect for proper connections at the antenna and the radio antenna module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Does poor or no reception occur only on AM?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio antenna module harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  4. Important: Always zero out the DMM before taking a resistance measurement to ensure an accurate reading.

  5. Measure the resistance between the negative battery cable and the radio antenna coaxial ground at the radio.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

0.40 ohms

  1. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  2. Connect the radio antenna module harness connector.
  3. Disconnect the antenna from the radio antenna module.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Tune the radio to a known strong AM station.

Does the AM reception degrade further?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit for an open, short to ground or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in wiring repairs.
