DEFINITION: The ignition lock cylinder has been diagnosed as needing replacement but is unable to be removed from the cylinder case using the standard service procedure.

Did you review the Ignition Lock System Description and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Attempt to rotate the key to the RUN position.

Is the lock cylinder in the RUN position?

Go to Step 3

Replace the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement.

With the shear bolt and case clamp removed, determine if the lock cylinder case can be removed from the column.

Can the lock cylinder case be removed from the column?

Go to Step 6

The steering wheel lock bolt, if engaged, may prevent removal of the lock cylinder case. DO NOT attempt to remove the lock cylinder by destroying the lock cylinder/housing. Carefully cut away the lock cylinder case from the column. Refer to step 8 in Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement.
