J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front tire/wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  2. Object Number: 854976  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut.

  4. Object Number: 854972  Size: SH
  5. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end nut and discard it.

  6. Object Number: 854983  Size: SH
  7. Use puller J 24319-B to separate the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

  8. Object Number: 854987  Size: SH

    Note: Count the total number of complete rotations needed to remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the rack and pinion inner tie rod.

  9. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the rack and pinion inner tie rod.
  10. Remove the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut and discard it.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 854976  Size: SH

    Note: Inspect the rack and pinion inner tie rod threads for any damage or debris. Clean, repair, or replace the rack and pinion inner tie rod as needed.

  1. Install a rack and pinion inner tie rod nut.

  2. Object Number: 854987  Size: SH

    Note: Install the rack and pinion outer tie rod end the same number of complete rotations counted when removing it prior.

  3. Thread the rack and pinion outer tie rod end onto the rack and pinion inner tie rod.

  4. Object Number: 854972  Size: SH
  5. Install the rack and pinion outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  6. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Install a new rack and pinion outer tie rod end nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.

  9. Tighten the rack and pinion inner tie rod nut.
  10. Install the front tire/wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  11. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment.
