Removal Procedure

    Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Place the drain pan under the transaxle oil pan.

    Caution: When removing the oil pan bolts, be careful not to damage the oil pan sealing surfaces. Such damage may result in oil leaks in this area.

  4. Remove the oil pan bolts from only the front and the sides.
  5. Loosen the rear oil pan bolts about 4 turns.
  6. Lightly tap the oil pan with a rubber mallet or pry in order to allow the fluid to drain.
  7. Inspect the fluid color.
  8. Remove the remaining oil pan bolts.

  10. Remove the oil pan.

  11. Object Number: 104471  Size: SH
  12. Remove the oil pan gasket.

  13. Object Number: 97334  Size: SH
  14. Remove the oil filter. Use a long screwdriver in order to pry the oil filter neck out of the seal.
  15. Check the oil filter seal for damage or wear.
  16. As needed, remove the seal using the J 6125-1B and the J 23129 .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 104464  Size: SH
  1. Install a new seal, as needed. Before installing, coat the new seal with a small amount of J 36850 or petroleum jelly.
  2. Install a new filter into the case.

  3. Object Number: 104466  Size: SH
  4. Install the oil pan gasket. Use a new gasket if the sealing ribs are damaged.
  5. Clean and dry the oil pan. Inspect the pan for damage and replace the pan if necessary.
  6. Install the oil pan.
  7. Clean and dry the oil pan. Inspect the pan for damage and replace the pan if necessary.
  8. Install the oil pan.
  9. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 104468  Size: SH
  10. Install the oil pan bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Fill the transaxle to the proper level. Refer to Fluid Capacity Specifications.
  14. Inspect the pan for leaks. Recheck the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check.
