Engine Control Module Programming and Setup With RPO LLY

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

  1. Capture and restore the Option data.
  2. Important: The Option data collected from the ECM that was replaced must be restored in the new ECM before programming.

  3. Restore the Option data in the new ECM.
  4. Important: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.

  5. Enable ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
  6. Start and idle vehicle.
  7. Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure--Refer to Turbocharger Learn .
  8. If necessary, perform the following:
  9. • Theft Deterrent--Refer to Immobilizer System Component Programming .
    • The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming--Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
    • Fuel Filter Life--Use scan tool to reset Fuel Filter Life.

ECM Reprogramming

       Important: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.

    • Enable ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
    • Start and idle vehicle.
    • Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure--Refer to Turbocharger Learn .
    • If necessary, preform the following:
       - Theft Deterrent--Refer to Immobilizer System Component Programming .
       - The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming--Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .
       - Engine Oil Life Remaining--Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
       - Fuel Filter Life--Use scan tool to reset Fuel Filter Life.

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a Turbocharger Learn Procedure must be performed.

    • Turbocharger
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve

    • The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming--Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
    • Fuel Filter Life--Use scan tool to reset Fuel Filter Life.

ECM Reprogramming

    Important: It is necessary to record Fuel Filter Life before reprogramming. The ECM reprogramming procedure will reset Fuel Filter Life to zero.

  1. Record Fuel Filter Life.
  2. Important: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.

  3. Enable ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
  4. Reset Fuel Filter Life to the recorded value.
  5. Start and idle vehicle.
  6. Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure--Refer to Turbocharger Learn .
  7. If necessary, perform the following:
  8. • Theft Deterrent--Refer to Immobilizer System Component Programming .
    • The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming--Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

    • Turbocharger
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve
