J 37228 Seal Cutter

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1334849  Size: SH
  1. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  2. Remove the lower oil pan. Refer to Lower Oil Pan Replacement .
  3. Remove the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the front engine crossmember. Refer to Engine Front Crossmember Replacement .
  5. Remove the 2 flywheel housing to upper oil pan bolts.

  6. Object Number: 1334851  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper oil pan bolts and any brackets. Mark the bolt location of the bracket.
  8. Separate the upper oil pan from the engine block using the J 37228 .
  9. Remove the upper oil pan.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 663817  Size: SH
  1. Apply a 2-3 mm (0.79-0.118 in) wide by 0.5-1.5 mm (0.02-0.06 in) bead of sealant to the upper oil pan mating surfaces. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
  2. Apply a 2-3 mm (0.79-0.118 in) wide by 0.5-1.5 mm (0.02-0.06 in) bead of sealant to the flywheel housing sealing surface. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  3. Object Number: 1334851  Size: SH
  4. Install the upper oil pan to the engine block.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 663823  Size: SH
  6. Install any brackets and the upper oil pan bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  8. Install the 2 flywheel housing to upper oil pan bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the front engine crossmember. Refer to Engine Front Crossmember Replacement .
  11. Install the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  12. Install the lower oil pan. Refer to Lower Oil Pan Replacement .
  13. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
