Lower Control Arm Replacement 4WD

Tools Required

    • J 43631 Ball Joint Remover
    • J 45851 Ball Joint Separator Protector Adapters

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 830489  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove the stabilizer link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  5. Remove the wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  6. Remove the shock absorber lower retaining nut and bolt.

  8. Remove the lower ball joint retaining nut.

  9. Object Number: 853943  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle using J 43631 and J 45851 .

  11. Object Number: 830516  Size: SH
  12. Remove the lower control arm nuts and the washers.
  13. Remove the lower control arm bolts.
  14. Remove the lower control arm.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 830516  Size: SH
  1. Install the lower control arm.
  2. Connect the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  3. Install the lower control arm mounting bolts.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the lower control arm mounting nuts and the washers.
  6. Tighten

        • W/O 14050/12300 CVW, tighten the nuts to 155 N·m (114 lb ft).
        • With 14050/12300 CVW, tighten the nuts to 240 N·m (177 lb ft).

  7. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  9. Install the shock absorber lower retaining nut and bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  11. Install the wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  12. Install the stabilizer link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  13. Install the torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  14. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.

Lower Control Arm Replacement RWD

Tools Required

    • J 43631 Ball Joint Remover
    • J 45851 Ball Joint Separator Protector Adapters

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 830506  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the front coil spring. Refer to Front Coil Springs Replacement.
  4. Remove and discard the lower ball joint retaining nut.

  5. Object Number: 853943  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle using J 43631 and J 45851 .
  7. Remove the lower control arm.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 830506  Size: SH
  1. Install the lower control arm.
  2. Connect the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the new lower ball joint retaining nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  6. Install the front coil spring. Refer to Front Coil Springs Replacement.
  7. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement.
