DEFINITION: The windshield wiper motor operates when the windshield wiper switch is OFF.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch OFF.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Are the windshield wipers always ON?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Disconnect the steering column harness connector.
  2. Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column connector half.
  3. Connect the steering column harness connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition.

Are the windshield wipers always ON?

Go to Step 4

Test the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit for a short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit in the steering column harness for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit in the steering column harness for a short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
