Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting.
  4. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
  6. Do not bend the brake pipe or the bracket.

  7. Remove the brake hose retaining clip from the hose mounting bracket.

  8. Object Number: 161564  Size: SH
  9. Remove the front brake hose retaining bolt and bracket from the upper control arm.

  10. Object Number: 156274  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper.
  12. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  13. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
  14. Remove the front brake hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156274  Size: SH

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  1. Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt and NEW washers to the brake caliper.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt of the front brake hose to the front brake caliper to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the front brake hose bracket and retaining bolt to the upper control arm.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt of the front brake hose bracket to the upper control arm to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.

    Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.

  9. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake hose into the bracket.
  10. Install the retaining nut and retaining clip to the front brake hose.

  11. Object Number: 161526  Size: SH
  12. Connect the brake pipe fitting nut to the brake hose:
  13. • Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting.
    • Do not bend the bracket or the pipe.

    Tighten
    Tighten the front brake pipe to the front brake hose to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  14. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  15. Install the tires and wheels on the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  16. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
