    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the exhaust manifold studs.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold studs to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  3. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold.
  5. Install the exhaust manifold nuts in sequence.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts in sequence working from the center out to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Install the left side spark plugs.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the spark plugs to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.

  11. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
  12. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  14. Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve gasket (615) and the EGR assembly (612, 614) to the upper intake manifold.
  15. Install the EGR valve bolts (616).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the EGR valve bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  17. Install the EGR pipe gasket (610) and pipe (612) to the left exhaust manifold.
  18. Install the EGR pipe bolts (616).
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the EGR pipe bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
