Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2008 🢒 Equinox 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Mechanical - 3.4L 🢒 Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 1087774 Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil filter adapter bolts (2).
  4. Remove the oil filter adapter (1) and gasket from the engine block.

    5. Object Number: 96347 Size: SH
  5. Remove the oil filter bypass hole plug.

    6. Object Number: 96363 Size: SH

    Important: Do not pry against the threads in the oil filter bypass hole when removing the bypass valve.

  6. Insert a flat-bladed tool into the oil filter bypass hole and force the bypass valve out in order to remove the bypass valve.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 190505 Size: SH
  1. Install the oil filter bypass valve (1) to the proper depth.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 96347 Size: SH
  2. Install the oil filter bypass hole plug.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the plug to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  3. Install the oil filter adapter (1) and gasket to the engine block.
  4. Install the oil filter adapter bolts (2).

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Fill the engine with NEW engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities , Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations and Maintenance Schedule .
