Removal Procedure

Caution: Do not allow smoking or the use of open flames in the area where work on the fuel or EVAP system is taking place. Anytime work is being done on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required.

Caution: Whenever fuel lines are removed, catch fuel in an approved container. Container opening must be a minimum of 300 mm (12  in) diameter to adequately catch the fluid.

Notice: Fuel/Vapor lines cannot be spliced or repaired. The line must be replaced (if damaged) with the same type of line.

  1. Disconnect the engine evaporative emission (EVAP) purge hose/pipe from the chassis EVAP purge hose/pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  2. Cap or plug both the engine and chassis EVAP purge hose/pipes to prevent contamination.

  3. Object Number: 1226407  Size: SH
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  5. Disconnect the EVAP purge hose/pipe from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Cap or plug both the EVAP purge hose/pipe and canister to prevent contamination.

  8. Release the pipe retainers (1) from the vehicle underbody.
  9. Remove the purge pipe from the pipe retainers.
  10. Remove the purge pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 49888  Size: SH
  1. Position the purge pipe to the vehicle.
  2. Install the purge pipe to the pipe retainers.
  3. Secure the pipe retainers (1) to the vehicle underbody.

  5. Remove the caps or plugs from both the EVAP purge hose/pipe and canister.
  6. Connect the EVAP purge hose/pipe to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  7. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Remove the caps or plugs from both the engine and chassis EVAP purge hose/pipes.
  10. Connect the engine EVAP purge hose/pipe to the chassis EVAP purge hose/pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
