Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 178630 Size: SH

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  1. Remove the brake caliper (2) from the brake caliper mounting bracket and support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 927715 Size: SH
  3. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.

  4. Object Number: 891434 Size: SH
  5. Remove the disc brake pad retainers (2) from the brake caliper bracket.
  6. Thoroughly clean the brake pad hardware mating surfaces of the caliper bracket, of any debris and corrosion.
  7. Inspect the disc brake pad retainers for the following:
  8. • Bent mounting tabs
    • Excessive corrosion
    • Looseness at the brake caliper mounting bracket
    • Looseness at the disc brake pads
  9. If any of the conditions listed are found, the disc brake pad retainers require replacement.

  10. Object Number: 933137 Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake caliper guide pins from the brake caliper bracket.

  12. Object Number: 891430 Size: SH
  13. Remove the caliper guide pin boots (1) from the caliper bracket.
  14. Inspect the caliper guide pin bores in the caliper bracket. Carefully remove any debris or corrosion from the bores.
  15. Inspect the guide pin boots (1). If the boots are damaged, they require replacement.
  16. Inspect the caliper guide pins. If either of the guide pin assemblies is damaged or corroded, the guide pins require replacement.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 891430 Size: SH
  1. Apply a thin, light coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper guide pin boots (1).
  2. Fully install the guide pin boots (1) to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  3. Object Number: 891427 Size: SH

Important: Ensure that there is not a build up of lubricant at the end of the upper guide pin, ahead of the bushing.

  4. Apply a light coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper guide pins.
  5. Install the brake caliper guide pins (1) to the caliper mounting bracket. Ensure that the rim of the guide pin boots is fully seated in the groove on the guide pins.

  6. Object Number: 891434 Size: SH
  7. Apply a very thin coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the pad hardware mating surfaces (1) of the caliper bracket only.
  8. If reusing the brake pad retainers, clean the brake pad mating surfaces of the brake pad retainers (2).
  9. Install the brake pad retainers (2) to the brake caliper bracket.

  10. Object Number: 927715 Size: SH

Important: The wear sensor equipped disc brake pad must be mounted inboard of the rotor with the leading edge of the sensor facing the brake rotor during forward wheel rotation, or at the top of the pad when installed in vehicle position.

  11. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
  12. Remove the support and reposition the brake caliper over the brake pads and to the mounting bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .
