Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Is the security indicator On?

Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the starter solenoid click?

Go to Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Crank Request Signal parameter in the Engine Electrical powertrain control module (PCM) data list.
  2. Turn the ignition to the START position.

Does the scan tool display that the Crank Request Signal parameter is Yes?

Go to Step 5

Go to Power Mode Mismatch in Computer/Integrating Systems

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Starter Relay Command parameter in the PCM data list.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the scan tool display that the Starter Relay Command parameter is ON?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify that the transmission is in Park or Neutral.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the TR Sw. parameter in the PCM data list.

Does the scan tool display Park or Neutral?

  1. Disconnect the starter relay.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Connect a test light between the starter relay coil supply voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Connect a test light between a battery positive voltage circuit and the starter relay coil control circuit of the starter relay.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the starter relay.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Connect a test light between the starter relay switch supply voltage circuit and good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Connect a 30-amp fused jumper between the battery positive voltage circuit and the starter solenoid crank voltage circuit of the starter relay.

Does the engine crank?

Test the STARTER relay coil control circuit of the PCM for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the starter solenoid crank voltage circuit of the starter relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
