Starter Replacement 2.0L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1255514 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine intake manifold-to-engine block strap bracket over the starter.
  3. Remove the starter-to-transmission mounting bolt.
  4. Remove the starter-to-engine block mounting bolt.

    5. Object Number: 1255513 Size: SH
  5. Remove the starter solenoid nuts to disconnect the electrical cable.
  6. Remove the starter assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1255514 Size: SH
  1. Place the starter assembly in position.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the upper and the lower starter mounting bolts.

    3. Tighten

        • Tighten the starter-to-engine block mounting bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
        • Tighten the starter-to-transmission mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
  3. Install the engine intake manifold-to-engine block strap bracket over the starter.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the engine strap bracket over the starter to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  4. Position the starter electrical wire on the solenoid terminal.
  5. Install the starter solenoid terminal-to-ignition solenoid terminal nut.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. Install the starter solenoid terminal-to-battery cable terminal nut.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

Starter Replacement 2.5L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air hose inlet hose bolts.

    3. Object Number: 1375492 Size: SH
  3. Remove the starter solenoid nut to disconnect the electrical cable.
  4. Disconnect the starter electrical connector.

    5. Object Number: 1375493 Size: SH
  5. Remove the starter-to-engine block mounting bolt and the starter-to-transmission mounting bolt.
  6. Remove the starter assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1375493 Size: SH
  1. Install the starter-to-engine block mounting bolt and the transmission-to-starter mounting bolt.

    2. Tighten

        • Tighten the starter-to-engine block mounting bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
        • Tighten the transmission-to-starter mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  2. Position the starter electrical wire on the solenoid terminals and the ground wire.
  3. Install the starter solenoid nut.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the starter solenoid nut to 7 N·m (61 lb in).

  4. Connect the starter solenoid connector.

    5. Object Number: 1375491 Size: SH
  5. Install the air inlet hose.
  6. Install the air inlet hose bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the air inlet hose bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
