Generator Replacement 2.0L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1255506  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the nut from the generator lead to the battery and disconnect the lead.
  3. Disconnect the harness connector from the back of the generator.

  4. Object Number: 1255505  Size: SH
  5. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.

  6. Object Number: 1255502  Size: SH
  7. Remove the generator-to-intake manifold and cylinder head support bracket bolts, and the generator-to-intake manifold strap bracket bolt.
  8. Raise the vehicle and remove the bolts that hold the generator lower bracket to the engine.

  9. Object Number: 1255512  Size: SH
  10. Carefully remove the generator with the lower bracket attached.
  11. Remove the generator lower support bracket bolt and the nut.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1255510  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator to the lower bracket with the bolts.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the nut and the washer on the lower bracket-to-generator bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the lower bracket-to-generator nut to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  5. Install the generator and the lower support bracket assembly to the engine block with the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the generator lower bracket-to-engine block bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle and install the generator-to-intake manifold and cylinder head support bracket bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the generator-to-intake manifold and cylinder head support bracket bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  9. Install the generator-to-intake manifold strap bracket bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the generator-to-intake manifold strap bracket bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Connect the harness connector to the back of the generator.
  12. Connect the battery lead to the generator and install the nut.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the battery-to-generator lead to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  14. Install the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.

Generator Replacement 2.5L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt by lowering the vehicle and turning the automatic tensioner roller bolt clockwise to relieve tension on the belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.

  3. Object Number: 1375489  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the harness connector form the back of the generator, and the generator lead to the battery.

  5. Object Number: 1375490  Size: SH
  6. Carefully remove the generator with the bolts.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1375490  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator to the generator bracket and insert the generator bolt.
  2. Tighten

        • Tighten the generator bracket upper bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
        • Tighten the generator bracket lower bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  3. Connect the harness connector to the back of the generator, and the generator lead to the battery.

  4. Object Number: 1375417  Size: SH
  5. Route the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.
  6. Relieve tension on the belt by first applying downward pressure on the automatic tension roller bolt and releasing pressure once the belt is in place.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
