OIL LEAK AT OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG V-8, V6, OHV L4 CARS & TRUCKS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL 1986 AND PAST MODEL YEAR APPLICATIONS OF V-8, V-6, OHV L-4 PASSENGER CAR AND TRUCK WITH VIN CODES (F, G, H, P, S, W, X, Z, 6, 8 PASSENGER CAR) AND VIN CODES (F, H, K, L, M, N, R, B, Y, AND Z TRUCK)

An improved oil drain plug gasket, P/N 14090908, is available to replace the copper gasket, P/N 14079550. The new gasket is a steel washer with captured 0-ring (Viton).

The new 0-ring/steel gasket is capable of sealing irregular surfaces with light torques while retaining the clamping load over time. Reuse of the 0-ring/steel gasket does not lessen sealing or torque retention characteristics.

Recommended torque for the 0-ring/steel gasket is 16-27 N.m. (12-20 ft. lbs.).

Excessively higher torques may cause deformation, splitting, or loss of sealing capability.

This is an informational bulletin.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
