SERVICE VME

This is a service VME involving 1997-2003 Corvettes

Corvette (Y- Body) 1997 - 2003 Wheel Damage From the ¼ - Ounce Wheel Weight

There have been a number of comments about wheels being damaged from the wheel weight moving on the wheel flange. Earlier this year a concern was identified with the ¼ - ounce wheel weight that allowed it to move on the wheel. The wheel weight has a small barb that prevents it from moving on the wheel when the weight is installed. Upon checking the dimensions of this weight, it was found that the retention barb was in fact smaller then intended. This condition allows the weight to move around the circumference of the wheel damaging the finish of the wheel.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
