Lip seals seal rotating shafts. Lip seals require special treatment. The hydraulic shaft of the pump assembly uses the lip seal. Inspect and clean sealing surfaces when replacing a seal due to a leak. Use crocus cloth to clean surfaces if the following is present:

Replace the shaft only if the leakage cannot be stopped by smoothing the surface with crocus cloth first.
