Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.8L (LK5).
  2. Remove the battery box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .

  5. Disconnect the brake booster hose (6) from the brake booster.
  6. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector (3).
  7. Disconnect the MAP sensor wiring harness retainer (4) from the intake manifold (5).
  8. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) dirty air tube (2) from the camshaft cover.
  9. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  11. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (1) from the intake manifold (2).

  12. Object Number: 1350700  Size: SH
  13. Remove the 2 upper bolts securing the engine wiring harness bracket to the intake manifold.
  14. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the remaining components through the wheelhouse. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  15. Remove the left front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  16. Remove the left front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement in Body Front End.

  18. Disconnect the following wiring harness retainers from the engine wiring harness bracket:
  19. • The battery cable
    • The engine (4, 6)
    • The MAP sensor (5)

  20. Remove the remaining engine wiring harness bracket bolt.
  21. Remove the bracket from the engine compartment through the wheelhouse opening.

  22. Remove the intake manifold bolts.
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Remove the intake manifold from the cylinder head.
  25. Remove the seal from the intake manifold.
  26. Discard the seal.

  27. Mask off the open ports to the cylinder head, in order to prevent foreign objects from entering the engine.
  28. Clean and Inspect the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the masking from the cylinder head and ensure the sealing surface is clean and dry.
  2. Install a NEW seal into the intake manifold groove.

  3. Object Number: 953942  Size: SH
  4. Position the intake manifold to the cylinder head.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the following components through the wheelhouse Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information:
  6. • The intake manifold bolts
    • The engine wiring harness bracket bolts
    • The wiring harnesses

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the intake manifold bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the intake manifold bolts from the inside working outward to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Position the engine wiring harness bracket to the engine and harnesses.
  10. Install the engine wiring harness bracket bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  12. Secure the following wiring harness retainers to the engine wiring harness bracket:
  13. • The battery cable
    • The engine (4, 6)
    • The MAP sensor (5)
  14. Install the left front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  15. Install the left front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  16. Lower the vehicle.

  18. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer (1) to the intake manifold (2).
  19. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  20. Object Number: 1350689  Size: SH
  21. Connect the PCV dirty air tube (2) to the camshaft cover.
  22. Connect the MAP sensor wiring harness retainer (4) to the intake manifold (5).
  23. Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector (3).
  24. Connect the brake booster hose (6) to the brake booster.
  25. Install the oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  26. Install the battery box. Refer to Battery Box Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  27. Install the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.8L (LK5).
