Exhaust Manifold Replacement LK5

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the exhaust seal. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement .
  2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 953934 Size: SH
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.

    4. Object Number: 953937 Size: SH
  4. Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket from the engine. Discard the gasket.
  5. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical - 2.8L (LK5).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 953937 Size: SH
  1. Place a NEW exhaust manifold gasket on to the cylinder head.

    2. Object Number: 953934 Size: SH
  2. Position the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
  3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the exhaust manifold bolt threads.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence.

    6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
  6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement .
  7. Install the exhaust seal. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the exhaust seal. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement .
  2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 858158 Size: SH
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.

    4. Object Number: 858159 Size: SH
  4. Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket from the engine. Discard the gasket.
  5. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical - 3.5L (L52).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 858159 Size: SH
  1. Place a NEW exhaust manifold gasket on to the cylinder head.

    2. Object Number: 858158 Size: SH
  2. Position the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
  3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the exhaust manifold bolt threads.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence.

    6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
  6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement .
  7. Install the exhaust seal. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement .
