Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment 2.9L and 3.7L

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Ensure that the range selector cable is not restricted.
  2. Ensure that the column shift control is in the PARK position.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  4. Object Number: 1302081  Size: SH

    Important: Do not pull on the boot portion of the cable.

  5. Complete the following in order to disconnect the range selector cable (3) from the transmission range selector lever ball stud.
  6. 4.1. Insert a flat-bladed tool between the range selector cable end (5) and the range selector lever (1).
    4.2. Pry the range selector cable end (5) away from the range selector lever (1).
  7. Ensure that the range selector lever is in the mechanical PARK position.
  8. Rotate the range selector lever fully clockwise.

  9. Slide the secondary locking tab rearward to release the primary lock.

  11. Open the primary lock to disengage.

  13. Push the range selector cable end (5) onto the transmission range selector lever ball stud to secure.

  14. Object Number: 1302090  Size: SH
  15. Close the primary lock to engage.

  16. Object Number: 1302092  Size: SH
  17. Slide the secondary locking tab forward to secure the primary lock.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Check the vehicle for proper operation.

Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment 5.3L

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Ensure that the shift control is in the park (P) position.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Ensure that the range selector cable is not restricted.

  4. Object Number: 466176  Size: SH
  5. Pull back the plastic cover (1) on the center connector.

  6. Object Number: 466195  Size: SH
  7. Pull up on the center tabs of the lock button (2).

  8. Object Number: 466226  Size: SH

    Important: This step must be performed correctly to avoid a misadjusted cable. Do not grasp the shift cable end (2) during this procedure.

  9. Release the shift cable end  (2) and allow the spring to tension/adjust the shift cable system.
  10. Pull the cover (3) on the shift cable end  (1) back.

  12. Push the lock button (2) down to engage the locking teeth on the shift cable end (1).

  13. Object Number: 466230  Size: SH
  14. Release the cover (1).

  15. Object Number: 466234  Size: SH
  16. Verify the cover (1) conceals the lock (2).
  17. If the cover (1) does not conceal the lock (2), the shift cable must be readjusted.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Check the vehicle for proper operation.
