Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1339734  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Mark the front U-joint to the pinion yoke on the front differential.

  3. Object Number: 1339742  Size: SH
  4. Mark the relationship of the rear U-joint to the transfer case drive flange.
  5. Mark the relationship of the rear U-joint to the transfer case drive flange.

  6. Object Number: 1348023  Size: SH
  7. Remove the retaining nuts and bolts from the drive flange.

  8. Object Number: 1339749  Size: SH
  9. Remove the clamps and retaining bolts from the front drive axle pinion flange.

  10. Object Number: 1347764  Size: SH
  11. Remove the front propeller shaft from the vehicle.
  12. Using tape and or a rubber band, wrap the front U-joint bearing caps to ensure the caps do not separate from the U-joint.

Installation Procedure.


    Object Number: 1347764  Size: SH
  1. Remove the tape or rubber band from the front U-joint
  2. Install the front propeller shaft.

  3. Object Number: 1339749  Size: SH
  4. Align the reference marks on the front U-joint.
  5. Important: When installing the retaining bolts, only tighten them finger tight to hold the front propeller shaft in position.

  6. Install the front U-joint bolts and clamps.

  7. Object Number: 1339742  Size: SH
  8. Align the reference marks on the rear U-joint.
  9. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1348023  Size: SH
  10. Install the propeller shaft to pinion flange bolts.
  11. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolts from the propeller shaft to the pinion flange 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
        • Tighten the bolts for the front propeller U-joint clamps 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
  12. Lower the vehicle.
