DTC Descriptor

DTC B3100 01: Keyless Entry Data Link Circuit

DTC B3100 02: Keyless Entry Data Link Circuit Short to Ground

DTC B3100 73: Keyless Entry Data Link Circuit Parity Error

Circuit/System Description

When any keyless entry transmitter button is pressed, an RF signal is sent to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) indicating the specific function desired. This information is then transmitted by the RCDLR to the body control module (BCM). When this information is received, the BCM will perform the specific requested function.

Conditions for Running the DTC

An RFA request is sent from the RCDLR to the BCM.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3100 01

The serial data signal circuit is shorted to B+ during communication between the RCDLR and BCM.

B3100 02

The serial data signal circuit is shorted to ground during communication between the RCDLR and BCM.

B3100 73

A message is received by the BCM during communication that is not recognized.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

Keyless entry functions are disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear when the fault is no longer present.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 ignition cycles without a fault present.

Circuit/System Verification

While operating each function using the keyless entry transmitter, observe the vehicle. Each button press should result in the expected action on the vehicle.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the C2 harness connector at the BCM.
  2. Test for B+ between the signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.
  3. If not than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR
  4. Connect a DMM on the DC Min-Max setting between the signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.
  5. Observe the DMM while pressing a keyless entry transmitter button. The reading should momentarily change between the Max and Min values. The Max value should be greater than 10.8 volts and the Min value should be less than 4 volts.
  6. If not within the specified Max and Min ranges, replace the RCDLR.
  7. If all circuits test normal, replace the BCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
