Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment Fuel Pipes

Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Disconnect the engine fuel pipes from the engine fuel flex hoses. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  3. Remove the engine fuel pipes fasteners located on the engine.
  4. Use a backup wrench and disconnect the engine fuel pipes from the fuel rail.
  5. Remove the engine fuel pipes.

  7. Remove the O-rings (2) from the fuel rail and pipes connections.
  8. Separate the bundle if replacing a single pipe.

Installation Procedure

  1. Assemble the fuel pipe bundle.

  2. Object Number: 783968  Size: SH
  3. Install new O-rings (2) to the fuel rail and pipes connections.
  4. Connect the engine fuel pipes to the fuel rail.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the engine fuel pipes fasteners located on the engine.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel bundle fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Secure the fuel bundle to the fuel rail.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Connect the engine fuel pipes to the engine fuel flex hoses.
  11. Pull back on fuel lines to ensure they are properly connected.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  13. Inspect for leaks using the following procedure:
  14. 9.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
    9.2. Inspect for fuel leaks.
    9.3. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    9.4. Turn ON the ignition.

Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the fuel flex hoses (1, 5) from the chassis fuel pipes (2, 4). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  4. Disconnect the fuel flex hoses (1, 5) from the engine fuel pipes. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Remove the fuel flex hoses.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the fuel flex hoses (1, 5) to the engine fuel pipes. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  2. Connect the fuel flex hoses (1, 5) to the chassis fuel pipes (2, 4). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  3. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  4. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  5. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
  6. 5.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
    5.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    5.3. Turn ON the ignition.
    5.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
