REAR SEAT-TO-BACK WINDOW PANEL RATTLE - REPAIR PROCEDURE

ON SOME 1980 OR 1981 "X" 08 OR 68 STYLES, RATTLES MAY BE ORIGINATING FROM THE REAR SEAT-TO-BACK WINDOW PANEL. THESE RATTLES MAY BE A RESULT OF THE FOUNDATION ASSEMBLY VIBRATING AGAINST THE REAR SEAT TO BACK WINDOW PANEL FRAME (SEE ILLUSTRATION). THIS CONDITION CAN BE CORRECTED BY THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE: 1.OPEN HATCH LID OF VEHICLE. 2.DISCONNECT RIGHT AND LEFT REAR SEAT-TO-BACK WINDOW FRAME RETAINERS FROM STUDS ON HATCH LID SUPPORT ASSEMBLIES (GAS STRUTS). LOWER REAR SEAT TO BACK WINDOW PANEL TO ITS NORMAL, HORIZONTAL POSITION. 3.REMOVE BOTH RETAINERS FROM REAR SEAT TO BACK WINDOW PANEL. 4.REMOVE ALL FASTENERS SECURING FOUNDATION ASSEMBLY TO FRAME. 5.REMOVE FOUNDATION ASSEMBLY FROM VEHICLE AND PLACE UPSIDE DOWN ON A CLEAN PROTECTED SURFACE. 6.SPRAY A COAT OF GENERAL TRIM ADHESIVE (3M-08080 OR EQUIVALENT) TO UNDERSIDE OF FOUNDATION ASSEMBLY AND TO THE MATING SURFACE OF THE FRAME. LET DRY UNTIL TACKY. COVER THE LOAD FLOOR CARPET AND QUARTER TRIM TO PROTECT AGAINST ADHESIVE OVERSPRAY. 7.PLACE FOUNDATION ASSEMBLY ON FRAME, AND INSTALL ALL FASTENERS. HAND SLICK FOUNDATION TO FRAME TO SECURE. 8.REINSTALL BOTH RETAINERS TO REAR SEAT TO BACK WINDOW FRAME. 9.REINSTALL BOTH RETAINERS TO STUDS ON HATCH LID SUPPORT ASSEMBLIES. 10.REMOVE ANY EXCESS ADHESIVE WITH ADHESIVE CLEANER (3M-08984 OR EQUIVALENT).
