Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 1500 Series

Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all evaporative emission (EVAP) line connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting, in order to avoid possible EVAP system contamination.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid (CVS) electrical connector (2).
  3. Remove the harness clip (1) from the CVS line.

  5. Disconnect the EVAP quick connecting fittings (1, 2) from the canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  6. Object Number: 1224300  Size: SH
  7. Remove the EVAP canister bracket bolts.
  8. Remove the EVAP canister.
  9. If necessary, remove the EVAP canister to bracket bolt.
  10. If necessary, remove the EVAP canister from the bracket.
  11. If necessary, remove the CVS from the canister.
  12. 9.1. Push in the CVS retainer.
    9.2. Slide the CVS from the bracket.
    9.3. Rotate the CVS to the vertical position.
    9.4. Disconnect the CVS quick connect fitting. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

Installation Procedure

  1. If necessary, install the CVS to the canister.
  2. 1.1. Connect the CVS quick connect fitting. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
    1.2. Rotate the CVS to the horizontal position.
    1.3. Slide the CVS onto the bracket.
    1.4. Pull out the CVS retainer in order for the CVS to engage.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. If necessary, install the EVAP canister to the bracket.
  4. If necessary, install the EVAP canister to bracket bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the EVAP canister.
  7. Install the EVAP canister bracket bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Connect the EVAP quick connecting fittings (1, 2) to the canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  10. Object Number: 1238167  Size: SH
  11. Install the harness clip (1) to the CVS line.
  12. Connect the EVAP CVS electrical connector (2).
  13. Lower the vehicle.

Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 2500 Series

Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all evaporative emission (EVAP) line connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting, in order to avoid possible EVAP system contamination.

  1. Remove the right side, rear bumper step pad. Refer to Rear Bumper Step Pad Replacement in Bumpers.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid (CVS) electrical connector (1).

  5. Disconnect the EVAP canister quick connect lines. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Remove the EVAP canister bolt.
  7. Lower the vehicle half way.

  9. Loosen the EVAP canister bracket nuts (1).

  10. Object Number: 1372958  Size: SH
  11. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, disengage the front bracket clip.

  12. Object Number: 1372960  Size: SH
  13. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, disengage the rear bracket clip.
  14. Remove the EVAP canister.
  15. Cap the EVAP lines in order to prevent possible EVAP system contamination.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1372960  Size: SH
  1. Remove the caps from the EVAP lines.
  2. Install the EVAP canister.
  3. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, engage the rear bracket clip.

  4. Object Number: 1372958  Size: SH
  5. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, engage the front bracket clip.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Tighten the EVAP canister bracket nuts (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10. Install the EVAP canister bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  12. Connect the EVAP canister quick connect lines. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  14. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid (CVS) electrical connector (1).
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Install the right side, rear bumper step pad. Refer to Rear Bumper Step Pad Replacement in Bumpers.

Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 1500 Series - 5.3L (L59) Engine

Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all evaporative emission (EVAP) line connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting, in order to avoid possible EVAP system contamination.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid line from the canister.
  3. Disconnect the fuel tank vapor line from the canister.
  4. Remove the vent pipe clip from the canister bracket.

  6. Disconnect the EVAP pipe from the canister.
  7. Cap the EVAP pipes in order to prevent possible EVAP system contamination.

  8. Object Number: 855760  Size: SH
  9. Remove the EVAP canister bolts.
  10. Remove the EVAP canister.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 855760  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the EVAP canister bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Remove the caps from the EVAP pipes.

  7. Connect the EVAP pipe to the canister.

  9. Install the vent pipe clip to the canister bracket.
  10. Connect the EVAP canister vent pipe to the canister.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
