Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 396823  Size: SH
  3. For vehicles equipped with automatic transmission 4L60-E, remove the six bolts securing the adapter and the seal to the transmission.

  4. Object Number: 396824  Size: SH
  5. For vehicles equipped with automatic transmission 4L80-E, remove the six bolts securing the adapter and the seal to the transmission.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 396823  Size: SH
  1. For vehicles equipped with the 4L60-E automatic transmission, lubricate the seal mating surface area with oil GM P/N 12346143.
  2. Install the adapter and seal to the transmission.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the six bolts securing the adapter to the transmission.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the adapter bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. For vehicles equipped with the 4L80-E automatic transmission, lubricate the seal mating surface area with oil GM P/N 12346143.
  7. Install the adapter and seal to the transmission.
  8. Install the six bolts securing the adapter to the transmission.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the adapter bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Replacement .
