Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, and Wiring Harness Unit Repair

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28458 Power Piston Seal Protector and Diaphragm Retainer Installer

  1. Remove the exhaust system. Do not remove the left converter. Refer to General Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  2. Remove the oil pan and the oil filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  3. Remove the external wiring harness connector from the transmission pass-through connector. Squeeze the fore and aft flats on the connector in order to release the locking tabs and the pull connector.

  5. Remove the accumulator cover bolts.
  6. Remove the 1-2 accumulator cover.

  8. Remove the 1-2 accumulator piston.
  9. Remove the 1-2 accumulator piston spring, and the oil ring seal.
  10. Remove the component electrical connectors.

  12. Remove the TCC PWM solenoid retainer.
  13. Remove the TCC PWM solenoid from the control valve body.

  15. Remove the pressure control solenoid retainer bolt.

  17. Remove the pressure control solenoid retainer.

  18. Object Number: 13883  Size: SH
  19. Remove the pressure control solenoid from the control valve body.

  20. Object Number: 14471  Size: SH
  21. Remove the TCC solenoid bolts.
  22. Remove the pass-through electrical connector from the transmission case.
  23. Use the small end of J 28458 over the top of the connector. Twist in order to release the four tabs. Pull the harness connector from the transmission case.
  24. Remove the TCC solenoid with the wiring harness from the transmission case.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the TCC solenoid with wiring harness to the transmission case.
  2. Install the pass-through electrical connector to the transmission case.

  3. Object Number: 14471  Size: SH
  4. Install the TCC solenoid bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the pressure control solenoid to the control valve body.

  7. Object Number: 13880  Size: SH
  8. Install the pressure control solenoid retainer.

  9. Object Number: 13876  Size: SH
  10. Install the pressure control solenoid bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  12. Install the TCC PWM solenoid to the control valve body.
  13. Install the TCC PWM solenoid retainer.
  14. Install the component electrical connectors.

  15. Object Number: 14467  Size: SH
  16. Install the 1-2 accumulator piston to the accumulator cover. Install the piston legs facing toward the case.
  17. Install the 1-2 accumulator spring onto the piston.

  18. Object Number: 14464  Size: SH
  19. Install the 1-2 accumulator cover and bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  21. Install the wiring harness connector to the transmission pass-through connector.
  22. Install the oil filter and seal. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  23. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  24. Install the exhaust system. Refer to General Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
