Starter Replacement Gasoline Engines

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

   Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

3. Remove the starter brackets, if equipped.
4. Remove the starter shields, if equipped.
5. Disconnect the starter solenoid wires.



6. Remove the starter mounting bolts and washers, if equipped.
7. Remove the starter from the engine.

1. Raise the vehicle.



2. Connect the starter mounting bolts and washers, if equipped, through the starter to the engine.

Tighten
Tighten the starter mounting through bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Connect the starter wires to the solenoid terminals.
5. Install the starter brackets, if equipped.
6. Install the starter shields, if equipped.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.

Starter Replacement Diesel Engines

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

   Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. 4. Remove the starter shields, if equipped.
5. Disconnect the starter solenoid wires.



6. Remove the starter mounting bolts and washers, if equipped.
7. Remove the starter from the engine.

1. Raise the vehicle.



2. Connect the starter mounting bolts and washers, if equipped, through the starter to the engine.

Tighten
Tighten the starter mounting through bolts to 45 N·m (35 lb ft).

3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Connect the starter wires to the solenoid terminals.
5. Install the starter brackets, if equipped.
6. Install the starter shields, if equipped.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
