POOR PERFORMANCE/SEVERE MISS CHECK INTAKE MAN. GASK. CLIPS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 'C,K,G,P,R,V' TRUCKS WITH 5.0L L03 AND 5.7L L05 (VIN CODES H AND K)

Early production 5.OL L03 and 5.7L L05 truck engines are equipped with stainless steel clips over the intake manifold gaskets at each intake port location. These clips are shown in the attached illustration and are intended to separate the cylinder head intake ports.

These clips must be re-installed after any engine repairs requiring their removal. Failure to install these clips could result in driveability problems, poor engine performance, or a severe engine miss. Refer to the illustration for proper clip installation.

Clips that are damaged or lost can be replaced by ordering P/N 10074116.

It is also necessary to add a "dab" of RTV sealant, P/N 992708, or equivalent, to the gasket to head parting line (see attached illustration).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
