SUBJECT: WARRANTY ADMINISTRATION -- CHEVROLET CLAIM PROCESSING CHANGES EFFECTIVE WITH APRIL 15, 1994 LABOR TIME GUIDE REVISION

MODEL: 1994 AND PRIOR CHEVROLET PASSENGER CARS AND LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS

ATTENTION:

DEALER SERVICE MANAGER/WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR

THE PURPOSE OF THIS BULLETIN IS TO ADVISE RETAIL/WHOLESALE SERVICE PERSONNEL OF CHANGES INCLUDED IN THE APRIL 15, 1994 REVISION TO THE CHEVROLET LABOR TIME GUIDE. INCLUDED IN THIS BULLETIN IS INFORMATION ON HOW THESE CHANGES WILL AFFECT THE DEALER'S ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTING A WARRANTY CLAIM WITH ELECTRICAL AND/OR EMISSION RELATED REPAIR DIAGNOSIS.

EFFECTIVE WITH THE 4/15/94 REVISION TO THE LTG, LABOR OPERATION J9997 "CAMS DIAGNOSTIC TIME" HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED FOR 1994 AND ALL FUTURE MODEL YEARS. ONLY THE USE OF J9997 GOES AWAY; A CAMS MACHINE CAN STILL BE USED AS A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL, UTILIZING THE NEW CLAIMS PROCESSING PROCEDURE. FOR 1993 AND PRIOR MODEL YEARS, THE CURRENT CLAIMS PROCESSING PROCEDURE FOR THE USE OF J9997 WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT, INCLUDING THE USE OF UP TO .7 REGULAR LABOR HOURS.

TO REPLACE LABOR OPERATION J9997 "CAMS DIAGNOSTIC TIME," THE 4/15/94 LTG REVISION INTRODUCED "VARIABLE DIAGNOSIS TIME." THIS DIAGNOSTIC TIME, RANGING FROM .0 TO .3 HRS., IS IDENTIFIED AS AN "ADD" ASSOCIATED WITH THE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL AND EMISSION RELATED LABOR OPERATIONS FOUND IN THE LTG. "VARIABLE DIAGNOSIS TIME" UTILIZED WITH THESE LABOR OPERATIONS SHOULD BE ENTERED IN "OTHER LABOR HOURS," NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH OTHER "ADD" CONDITIONS PLACED IN "REGULAR LABOR HOURS." AN "E" AUTHORIZATION IS REQUIRED FOR ANY DIAGNOSTIC TIME BEYOND THE PUBLISHED "VARIABLE DIAGNOSIS TIME" THAT IS IN THE LTG.

FOR '94 AND '95 MODEL YEARS, UNTIL 9/14/94, DEALERS CAN STILL UTILIZE THE VARIOUS LABOR OPERATIONS, WITH "CAMS DIAGNOSTIC TIME," FOUND IN APPENDIX "D" OF THE CHEVROLET CLAIMS PROCESSING MANUAL. BEGINNING 9/15/94, DEALERS WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO SUBMIT WARRANTY CLAIMS WITH THE .7 HOURS ASSOCIATED WITH THE LABOR OPERATIONS LISTED IN APPENDIX "D" OF THE CHEVROLET CLAIMS PROCESSING MANUAL WITH "CAMS DIAGNOSTIC TIME;" THE USE OF "VARIABLE DIAGNOSIS TIME" WILL BE REQUIRED. AS A REMINDER, DIAGNOSIS TIME WITH NO ASSOCIATED REPAIR MUST UTILIZE "CUSTOMER CONCERN NOT DUPLICATED" LABOR OPERATIONS.

THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
