PARK BRAKE LIGHT INOP REPLACE HARNESS CONNECTOR

SUBJECT: INOPERATIVE PARK BRAKE TELL-TALE LIGHTS (INSTALL LOCKING CONNECTOR)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1984-89 C5, C6, C7 MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED W/HYDRAULIC BRAKES

1984 through 1989 C5, C6 and C7 medium trucks equipped with hydraulic brakes could experience an inoperative tell-tale light operation due to a loose terminal connection at the hand brake lever if the driver accidentally kicks the park brake switch.

To address this condition, a new self-locking connector/terminal may be installed on the brake warning tell-tale harness at the park brake switch.

Self-locking connector/terminals are targeted to be released for Production approximately March, 1989.

REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE: (Refer to Figure 1.) ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Place the ignition key in the "off" position.

2. Locate the park brake switch on the park brake lever. Unplug the terminal/connector from the switch and cut the terminal/connector off the brake warning tell-tale harness (brown wire).

3. Replace the terminal/connector with P/N 12089254 (AMP(R) P/N 2-520129-2), or equivalent. Use AMP(R), Inc. Crimping Hand Tools #58078-3 and Die #90390-3 to insure the new terminal/ connector is securely attached to the brown wire. These tools are available from your local AMP(R), Inc. distributor or can be purchased from:

AMP(R), Inc. P.O. Box 3608 Harrisburg, Pa. 17105 (717) 564-0100 - Sales Dept.

4. Plug the terminal/connector into the park brake switch male blade terminal.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
