6.6L Engine Oil Leak at Main Bearing Cap Side Bolt - kw sealant seal LLY LB7 diesel

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Oil leak from crankshaft main bearing cap side bolt.

1. Use a new main bearing cap side bolt for this repair.
2. Properly clean and degrease the engine block surface and the threads of the main cap. Use GM P/N 12377981 brake cleaner or equivalent.
3. Dry the area with compressed air.
4. Use pipe sealer part number 12346004 (in Canada, 10953480) on the threads and the flange of the bolt.
5. After the flange and the threads of the bolt have sealer on them reinstall the bolt and torque to proper specifications.

( LB7 is 58 lb ft )

( LLY is 52 lb ft )

6. Let sealer dry 4 to 6 hours and then evaluate leak.
