J 45878 Combustible Gas Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical in the C/K Pickup service manual.

  4. Object Number: 757010 Size: SH
  5. Remove the intermediate pressure regulator (IPR) fuel outlet line hold-down nut (6).
  6. Remove the fuel outlet line hold down (4).
  7. Disconnect the IPR fuel outlet lines (5, 8) from the IPR (2).
  8. Loosen the IPR fuel outlet line screw clamp (9) at the fuel rail.
  9. Remove the IPR fuel outlet line hold downs (7) at the fuel rail.
  10. Remove the IPR fuel outlet line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 757010 Size: SH
  1. Connect the IPR fuel outlet lines (5, 8) to the IPR (2) using new O-rings (3). Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the line hold-down bracket (4) and nut (6).
  4. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Connect the IPR fuel outlet line at the fuel rail using the hold downs (7).
  6. Assemble the IPR fuel outlet line screw clamp (9) around the hold downs (7).
  7. Tighten
Tighten the screw clamp to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical in the C/K Pickup service manual.
  9. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the J 45878 or an equivalent combustible gas detector.
