The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
After programming the ECM on a 2004-2005 Duramax Diesel, a DTC P0101 may set right after start-up, or while driving.
Recommendation/Instructions:
During a ECM replacement, or a calibration software update, there is a selectable engine calibration.
The two selections are:
- A Rectangular Air Cleaner Housing Calibration ID # 15879103
- A Cylindrical Air Cleaner Housing Calibration ID # 25779295
The incorrect calibration will induce a DTC P0101 and excessive exhaust smoke. Turbo boost trouble codes may also be found.
The dealer should verify which air cleaner housing is on the vehicle, and make sure the correct engine calibration selection is made.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
