The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

There have been questions concerning a knurled appearance of the parking brake drum-in-hat surface. The knurling will look like fine machine cut lines across the surface of the drum-in-hat. This knurling is normal and can found on new service replacement rotors, as well as, new stock units. The purpose is to improve green "unburnished" park brake performance. As the park brake linings get burnished the knurling wears off.

Recommendation/Instructions:

No repairs should be made as this is normal.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
