The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

While working a fuel gauge concern on a 2004 full size truck or utility, equipped with a 4.8 LR4, 5.3 LM7, 6.0 LQ4/LQ9, or 8.1 L18 engine, bulletin 04-08-49-018E my look like it applies. However, the revised fuel level sensors listed in this bulletin do not apply to theses 2004 vehicles due to a change in the fuel level sensor assembly. Starting with theses vehicles the resistance value of the sensor is 40 ohms Full and 250 ohms Empty. The models listed in the bulletin used a fuel level sensor with a resistance value of 250 ohms Full and 40 ohms Empty.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a revised sending unit is not listed in service bulletin 04-08-49-018E, the bulletin does not apply and normal diagnostics should be utilized to address the complaint.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
